Mèo Vạc Sinkhole – A Wonder in the Heart of the Rocky Highlands.

At first glance, it may look like the surface of Mars, but in reality, it is the Mèo Vạc Sinkhole in Hà Giang. This is the result of geological processes and is one of the distinctive landscapes of the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau.

The Mèo Vạc Sinkhole is not the only sinkhole in the area, but it is likely the most accessible one in Hà Giang, located just about 3 kilometers from the center of Mèo Vạc town, in Tìa Chí Dừa village. The locals are unsure of when the sinkhole was formed, but they often visit the area to collect grass for their cattle, as the sinkhole is surrounded by a diverse range of plant life both around and within its depths.

From above, the Mèo Vạc Sinkhole resembles a giant stone heart, appearing both magnificent and unique. To reach the sinkhole, you need to walk a few hundred meters. The path is not too difficult, but it’s easy to get lost without guidance from the locals. Currently, visitors can only access and enjoy the panoramic view from the rim of the sinkhole. Approaching the bottom of the sinkhole is quite dangerous and is not permitted.
